Broadway’s biggest night is also one of its best-dressed. At the 2026 Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall on June 7, the red carpet delivered a master class in theatrical glamour — equal parts old-Hollywood polish and gleeful experimentation. Here are the looks that earned a standing ovation.
Rhinestones and column gowns
Rose Byrne set the tone in a custom off-white Prada column gown with a boatneck neckline, shimmering with rhinestone embellishments and floral-style beading — refined, modern and quietly spectacular. It was the kind of look that reads as effortless precisely because it is so meticulously constructed.
Drama and color
Queen Latifah brought the drama in a sparkling black floor-length Naeem Khan gown paired with a feathered cape that shifted from blue to green in the light — a showstopper finished with statement earrings and an elegant updo. At the other end of the palette, Cole Escola turned heads in a custom Christopher John Rogers ensemble in bright bubblegum pink, all voluminous sleeves, ruffles and an oversized bow tie. It was joyful maximalism done right.
Cool and considered
Aubrey Plaza leaned chic in a black-and-white striped Chanel dress from the Coco Beach 2026 collection with a deep V-neckline, while Carrie Coon offered one of the night’s coolest looks in a tuxedo-inspired Altuzarra gown, complete with wired glasses that became part of the outfit. Their restraint was its own statement.
The minimalist throughline
A clear trend emerged: many stars, including Rachel Zegler, Rose Byrne and Danielle Brooks, opted for a pared-back palette of black, white and silver, letting cut, texture and a hit of backstage sparkle do the talking. After several maximalist award seasons, the Tonys leaned toward elegant restraint.
Why it matters
Award-show carpets are trend incubators. What Broadway’s stars wear filters into editorial shoots, retail and eventually the high street — and the Tonys’ mix of sculptural tailoring, theatrical color and confident minimalism offers a preview of where dressing-up is heading.
The bottom line
From Byrne’s rhinestoned Prada to Escola’s pink showpiece and Coon’s cool tux, the 2026 Tonys red carpet balanced glamour and play. On a night celebrating live performance, the fashion more than held its own.
